Clean Energy in Remote and Rural Communities:
 Deshkan Ziibiing Retrofit Pilot

Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Treaties, Land and Environment Department, with the London Environmental Network, have partnered to help residents save money and reduce their GHG emissions, while providing a demonstration project for the community to learn about clean energy technologies. We have retrofitted 1 home on COTTFN territory to make improvements that help with energy efficiency and upgrades that will eliminate the use of propane in the home. Upgrades include; increased insulation, new windows and doors, electric heating and cooling system, electric hot water system, efficient appliances and a solar array.

GREENER HOMES LONDON


Skylar and her partner have made the steps to create a greener lifestyle, featuring a brand new air source heat pump to reduce their homes natural gas reliance along with various green practices beyond their home borders.

​Mary Ann's house stands out among the rest in her neighbourhood. Beyond the luscious front yard with native plants and pollinators, Mary Ann has installed solar energy and solar hot water panels to her roof, reducing her need for non renewable

​In this video, we visit Paul's home. Paul is an registered Energy Advisor in Ontario and uses his personal home to train up and coming EA's. Paul's home features many energy efficient steps that any home can make, like a tankless water heater, programable thermostat and high R value insulation.


​London has a NEW Energy Advisor. Andrée explains how and Energy Advisor determines the efficiency of a home, and how homeowners can utilize Energy Advisors to unlock retrofit funding from the Canadian Government through the Greener Homes Grant.

DEPAVE PARADISE​

Reel Nature was there to document London Environmental Networks first Depave Paradise event at Fanshawe College in August 2021. The focus was on revitalizing the neglected Arts Courtyard to create a more functional and engaging environment for students, staff, and visitors. With support from 59 volunteers, we depaved approximately 118 square metres of under-utilized pavement and replace it with gardens and permeable surfaces. The site now includes porous pavement (a permeable surface material made from recycled tires) and a rain and pollinator garden featuring over 150 native plants and 2 trees.

TREE TRUST | REEP GREEN SOLUTIONS​


​Reep Green Solutions celebrated the launch of the Waterloo Region Tree Trust on Arbor Day 2022 with St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School (C.S.S.) joined by the students of their Grade 12 graduating class, members of the school community, and Cambridge community including Mayor Kathryn McGarry. A ceremony was held on Arbor Day to induct the first Waterloo Region Tree Trust tree into the program. This tree was affectionately named Florere by St. Benedict’s 2022 graduating class.
